Osmomat 030 The total osmolality of an aqueous solution is determined by comparing the freezing point of pure water and the freezing point of the sample.

Water has a freezing point of 0 °C, a solution with saline concentration of 1 Osmol/kg has a freezing point of -1.858 °C.
